With the success of the official (RED) movement and with the team agreeing that supporting Africa's advancement is a worthwhile cause, our 2009 Fundraiser is (PG)RED

Our Primary focus is the concept of Microfinance: small loans that make a big business

Specifically we are raising money here in our community to use as capital to start companies in Africa. Using Kiva, a service that helps connect benefactors with potential entrepenuers in foreign countries, we are ensuring that our donations are recieved, tracked, and we receive an idea of their success. Companies that succeed make repaying their benefactors their top priority. This would be a temporary investment of finances that our team doesn't need this year, but may need in the future.

Another focus we have is the phsycial donation of technology to the African communities. An alumni of Jefferson High School who is also graduate student at Purdue University has created a project to restore computers and take them to African villiages and medical centers. He is responsible for creating the largest networks in multiple African countries. As a peer of our mentors and an alumni from our highschool, this is both an outreach project and an effort to connect our two families.

Our fundraiser for 2009 is to sell t-shirts that we have designed. Our sponsor, http://www.writetocollege.com/, has generously donated server space to us so that we can host a store online. More shirts will be available if early sales indicate a strong interest.

How it works:

  • Orders are placed through our online store with Write2College
    • Credit cards are Processed through PayPal
  • T-shirts are made at Freckles - here in Lafayette, Indiana!
  • Our team packages and ships them to you
  • 100% of our profit's are loaned to individuals on Kiva
  • These individuals use the money to start new businesses in Africa
  • If these businesses succeed, they return the money to us so we can use it for our 2010 community involvement
